Political and Religious Debate Banned in Educational Institutes

Authorities have enforced an immediate and strict ban on political and religious discussions across educational institutions, colleges, universities, and government offices.

In Attock, the District Education Authority (DEA), with approval from the Rawalpindi commissioner, has already suspended two female teachers for participating in political discussions. Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) Musarrat Sultana has been appointed to conduct an inquiry into the matter and submit a report.

Official notifications have been dispatched to government schools, department heads, and the health department, warning that strict action will be taken against violators of the directive. The Rawalpindi district commissioner (DC) has underscored the need for immediate compliance and effective enforcement of the ban.

The decision has faced significant backlash from groups such as the All Pakistan Clerks Association and various teacher organizations, who have openly rejected the restrictions. Despite this opposition, the District Education Administration (DEA) Rawalpindi has reinforced its directive, instructing school heads to ensure strict adherence.

This move is part of a broader trend in Pakistan’s history, where bans on political discourse are often imposed to suppress dissent and maintain the status quo.
