The Punjab government has introduced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for prisoners using Public Call Office (PCO) facilities, providing regulated access for communication with their families and legal representatives.
Under the new SOPs, prisoners can access PCO services from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday. They can contact only immediate family members, spouses, and legal counsel.
Each prisoner is allotted a maximum of 80 minutes of call time per week.
Special provisions have been made for women, juveniles, and death-row inmates, with dedicated PCO booths installed within their respective barracks.
This initiative aims to facilitate essential communication for prisoners while maintaining strict security measures.
