In a surprising move ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 draft, Karachi Kings have decided to relegate three players including their captain Shan Masood. The decision comes as the franchise looks to revamp its squad following another disappointing season. The PSL 10 draft is scheduled to take place on January 11, 2025.
In addition to Shan Masood, Karachi Kings have also relegated right-arm pacer Hasan Ali and leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood. Hasan Ali, who joined the Kings last season after a high-profile trade with Islamabad United, had a decent campaign, picking up 14 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 22.42. Despite his contributions with the ball, the Kings have opted to part ways with the experienced pacer, possibly due to their need to free up space in the Platinum category.
Zahid Mahmood, the leg-spinner who played six matches for the Kings, managed to take eight wickets but failed to make a significant impact. His performances were inconsistent, and the Kings appear to be looking for more reliable options in the spin department.
Interestingly, Hasan Ali was one of four local players promoted to the prestigious Platinum category ahead of the PSL 10 draft. The other players elevated to Platinum include Quetta Gladiators’ Mohammad Amir, Peshawar Zalmi’s Saim Ayub, and Multan Sultans’ Usama Mir. Despite his relegation by Karachi Kings, Hasan’s promotion to Platinum reflects his continued value as a top-tier player in the league.
