The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has introduced a new welfare program aimed at providing financial assistance to underserved brides through mass wedding events across the province. Under this initiative, each bride will receive a cash grant of Rs. 200,000, with plans to benefit over 4,000 women and ease the financial strain of marriage.
The announcement came during a meeting led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, focusing on social welfare programs and the use of Zakat and dowry funds. Senior officials, including the social welfare minister and local commissioners, participated in the discussions.
The government plans to organize mass weddings at district and divisional levels, fully funded by state resources. Officials assured that strict measures would ensure eligible candidates benefit from the program.
Other welfare initiatives discussed included permanent funding for Panahgahs (shelter homes), distributing wheelchairs to disabled college students, and establishing recreational old-age homes.
Additionally, the government is launching an “Orphan Card” program, offering Rs5,000 monthly to school-going orphans, while a proposed “Ration Card” scheme would provide elderly widows with Rs. 5,000 per month.
“These programs demonstrate the government’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and fostering a welfare-oriented state,” said CM Gandapur, directing officials to finalize implementation plans within a week.
