Arif Saeed, the newly appointed President of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), has emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to restore Pakistan’s positive reputation on the global sports stage.
Addressing the members of the POA Executive Committee at the Pakistan Olympic House in Lahore, Saeed highlighted the urgent need to rebuild international trust in the country’s sporting landscape.
Arif Saeed, who recently assumed his duties as POA President, stressed that revitalizing Pakistan’s international sports presence would require united action from all stakeholders. He expressed that the pathway to reviving international sports events in Pakistan lies in working together with a shared vision.
“We must work collectively to restore Pakistan’s positive image globally and rebuild the trust of the international sports community,” Saeed remarked, acknowledging the significance of sports in shaping the nation’s global image.
The meeting was attended by POA Secretary General Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Vice President Major (Retd.) Majid Wasim and Andleeb Sandhu, Deputy Secretary General Muhammad Jahangir, Finance Secretary Ahmar Malick, and Associate Secretary General Tahmina Asif, along with representatives from various sports federations and associations.
Saeed took a moment to reflect on the golden era of Pakistani sports, during which the country simultaneously held world championship titles in major sports, including cricket, hockey, snooker, and squash. He acknowledged that sports inevitably experience periods of success and setbacks, but emphasized the need for continuous efforts to push for progress and improvement.
“While no one stays at the top forever, the key is to keep striving for excellence. It’s the relentless pursuit of betterment that will bring us back to the global sporting forefront,” Saeed stated.
The newly elected President reaffirmed the POA’s commitment to ensuring that Pakistani athletes and sports are given the recognition they deserve on all platforms. He stressed the need for collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Pakistan Sports Board, to achieve the POA’s goal of revitalizing the country’s sports sector.
