The federal government has initiated action against two international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) accused of engaging in unlawful practices, according to a report by ARY News on Friday.
The Ministry of Interior has instructed the US-based “Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids” and “Vital Strategies” to cease operations within the country. A directive has been issued to the administrations of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and all provinces to ensure the closure of these organizations.
The State Bank of Pakistan has been ordered to freeze their bank accounts. The Ministry has also called for the immediate shutdown of the offices run by these INGOs.
According to sources, both organizations have been operating in Pakistan for years without securing proper approval from the government. It has been revealed that despite their unregistered status, they have collaborated with the Ministry of Health.
Neither “Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids” nor “Vital Strategies” is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) or the Economic Affairs Division, raising concerns about their compliance with local laws. This action is part of a broader effort by the government to address unregulated activities by NGOs operating in violation of legal requirements.
