With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 just around the corner, speculation is rife about which players will make the squad and don the green jersey for Pakistan in the marquee event.
Set to be hosted in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, the tournament marks the return of the prestigious competition after an eight-year hiatus.
Here’s a closer look at a predicted 15-member squad for Pakistan, combining seasoned campaigners and emerging talent to create a formidable lineup.
Pakistan’s top order is likely to feature the explosive Fakhar Zaman, left-handed prodigy Saim Ayub, and the dependable Imam-ul-Haq. Fakhar’s aggressive approach makes him a vital component, while Saim offers a youthful spark.
Although the youngster is facing a race against time to regain his fitness, it is a surety that PCB will include him in the Pakistan squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Imam, meanwhile, could be a solid backup because of his consistency and calm presence up top.
Babar Azam will once again be the lynchpin of Pakistan’s batting. Known for his elegant stroke play and ability to steer the innings, Babar will aim to shoulder the scoring burden as Pakistan defends its crown.
The middle order could see Kamran Ghulam and Tayyab Tahir making their Champions Trophy debut, alongside seasoned campaigner Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan’s ability to play under pressure makes him a key player, while Salman Ali Agha adds depth with his all-round capabilities.
The spin department features Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem.
Shadab’s experience and versatility make him an ideal candidate for a return while Abrar’s ability to outfox batters, gives Pakistan an edge on spin-friendly surfaces. Sufiyan Muqeem, a rising left-arm spinner, could also play a pivotal role in choking runs in the middle overs.
Pakistan’s pace attack remains one of the most feared in world cricket. Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah form a lethal trio capable of dismantling any batting lineup. The inclusion of Mohammad Hasnain will provide additional firepower.
The predicted squad is a blend of experience and youthful energy, featuring players capable of thriving in all scenarios. However, fitness concerns and ensuring adaptability to different conditions will be key to Pakistan’s success.
Pakistan will compete in Group A of the Champions Trophy 2025 alongside India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. The team’s campaign kicks off on February 19 against New Zealand in Karachi, followed by a blockbuster clash with arch-rivals India on February 23 in Dubai.
