The World’s Best-Selling EV Tesla Model Y Gets Stunning Update

Tesla Model Y crowned as the world’s best-selling electric car and a consistent favorite among EV enthusiasts, has received a major upgrade for 2025 with enhanced design, advanced technology, and improved performance.

This updated iteration, codenamed “Juniper,” has already debuted in China and Australia, where Tesla’s Shanghai factory serves as the production hub. While initially limited to these regions, the revamped Model Y is expected to hit UK roads later this year, continuing its journey as one of the most sought-after EVs in the world.

Exterior Updates

The refreshed Model Y boasts a sleek and refined exterior design influenced by Tesla’s “hammerhead” aesthetic. The front fascia features a Cybertruck-inspired slim LED light bar paired with streamlined headlights, while the rear showcases a full-width light bar with reflective lighting and bold Tesla lettering. These design changes, combined with a slightly longer body and more aerodynamic wheels, contribute to improved efficiency and performance.

The Model Y retains its signature panoramic glass roof and deep front windscreen, offering a dynamic and modern look with five color options, including Glacier Blue and Ultra Red.

Interior

Tesla has introduced subtle yet impactful upgrades to the cabin. Acoustic glazing on the windows reduces noise for a quieter ride, while softer materials on the dashboard and doors add a touch of luxury. Ambient lighting inspired by the latest Model 3 creates a modern, customizable atmosphere.

The centerpiece of the interior remains the 15.4-inch central touchscreen, now complemented by an eight-inch screen for rear passengers. This secondary screen offers games and entertainment, ensuring an engaging experience for those in the back seats. Front seats now feature ventilation and heating, while rear seats can fold electronically for convenience.

Tesla has refined the steering controls, keeping a traditional indicator stalk for ease of use while shifting gear selection and autopilot functions to the touchscreen.

Performance and Price

The updated Model Y delivers exceptional performance and range improvements:

  • Standard Range Rear-Wheel Drive: Offers a range of up to 466 km on a full charge.
  • Long Range All-Wheel Drive: Increases the range to 550 km, surpassing its predecessor’s 533 km.

The AWD variant accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 4.3 seconds, an improvement over the previous 4.8 seconds. Charging speeds have also been enhanced, reaching up to 250kW for the long-range model and 170kW for the standard version.

With prices starting at AUD 63,400 (£31,900) in Australia, the Model Y is set to maintain its title as a best-seller in key markets, including the UK.
