Pakistan’s former opening batter Ahmed Shehzad has voiced strong disapproval of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its management for listing his name in the local category of the PSL 10 draft, despite his earlier retirement from the league.
In a candid discussion on his YouTube channel, Shehzad expressed frustration, accusing the PCB of using his name for publicity.
Shehzad labeled the PCB’s move as a deliberate attempt to generate pre-tournament hype.
“PSL 10 is going to happen, and the interesting thing is that I’m supposedly playing. For the past few days, it feels like I’m part of PSL again. Are you happy now with the hype? Why don’t you focus on the players you’ve prioritized over the last four to five years?” Shehzad questioned.
The 33-year-old firmly reiterated that he stands by his decision to step away from the league and emphasized his commitment to principles, particularly regarding merit in Pakistan cricket.
“My decision to leave PSL stems from the absence of merit and the prioritization of connections over genuine talent,” he explained.
In a fiery critique, Ahmed Shehzad accused the PCB of using players as tools for publicity ahead of the PSL 10 draft.
“You all know I’ve announced my retirement. Yet, there are blind and foolish people in the PCB who use players to create hype, presenting them as either good or bad for their product’s benefit,” he remarked.
Ahmed Shehzad also clarified that neither he nor his agent had submitted his name for the PSL 10 draft.
“The PCB decides the categories and includes names in the draft. I am not available for PSL 10, and I don’t want to play. My inclusion in the draft is purely a cheap publicity stunt,” he added.
