During the question hour in the National Assembly, the Ministry of Interior presented detailed statistics on blocked computerized national identity cards (CNICs) over the past five years.
The ministry revealed that a total of 71,849 CNICs were blocked during this period due to various reasons, including verification issues.
According to the ministry, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported the highest number of blocked CNICs, with 25,981 cards affected. Punjab followed with over 13,000 blocked CNICs, while Sindh had 9,677.
In Balochistan, 20,583 CNICs were blocked. The federal capital, Islamabad, recorded 1,370 blocked CNICs, whereas 446 and 228 CNICs were blocked in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), respectively.
The Ministry of Interior further reported progress in resolving these cases. Across Pakistan, 44,460 CNICs were unblocked after completing the required verification process. However, many cases remain unresolved, as investigations continue into 13,618 blocked CNICs.
