Ihsanullah Retracts PSL Boycott

Pakistan’s emerging right-arm pacer Ihsanullah’s anfractuous career trajectory took another turn after the 22-year-old announced his decision to reverse his earlier announcement of retiring from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), just hours after declaring his boycott of the marquee tournament.

The 22-year-old fast bowler, who rose to prominence during PSL 8 with his blistering pace, had initially expressed his frustration after going unpicked in the PSL 10 player draft. In a sudden declaration, he vowed to withdraw from future PSL participation, citing disappointment over being overlooked.

Emotional Reaction Sparks U-Turn

In an exclusive interview with Geo Super, Ihsanullah clarified that his initial statement was a product of frustration and emotional influence rather than a well-considered decision. He admitted,

It was an emotional reaction. The franchises didn’t pick me, and I was upset due to the reaction from fans and family. That’s why I made such a decision. But I realize now it was wrong, and I have no intention of retiring from PSL.

He further expressed hope for redemption, stating, “There are still four months until PSL begins, and by the will of Almighty Allah, those who didn’t select me might reconsider later. My focus is on working hard and proving my worth.”

Pace and Promise

Ihsanullah, who dazzled in PSL 8 by claiming 22 wickets at an impressive average of 15.77 and an economy rate of 7.59, also addressed concerns about his recent bowling speeds.

“I’m consistently bowling at 130-135 km/h, which on TV appears closer to 140 km/h,” he explained. “Just recently, during a match in Peshawar, I clocked 142 km/h. I’m confident that I’ll improve further in the lead-up to the PSL. With upcoming domestic tournaments, I have plenty of opportunities to sharpen my skills.”

Apology and Gratitude

Acknowledging his earlier remarks’ impulsiveness, Ihsanullah apologized to PSL franchises.

“The decision I made in anger was wrong,” he said. “I apologise to the franchises and regret my statement. I’m committed to working hard and earning my place again.”
