Ignored Leg-Spinner Leaves Pakistan for Australia

Leg-spinner Usman Qadir, the son of Pakistan’s legendary Abdul Qadir, has made the bold decision to relocate to New South Wales, Australia, in search of a new direction for his cricketing career.

Now playing for Hawkesbury Cricket Club in Sydney, the 31-year-old has retired from Pakistan cricket as of October 2024, closing a chapter filled with both promise and frustration. Usman Qadir now hopes to revive his career in Australia.

In a deeply personal social media post, Usman Qadir bid farewell to his Pakistan cricket journey, expressing gratitude for the honor of representing his country. “It has been an immense honor to represent my country,” he wrote. “I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”

Usman Qadir began his tenure for Pakistan brightly, with a stellar debut in the 2020 T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he claimed eight wickets for 60 runs across three matches, earning the Player of the Series title. For a brief time, he was regarded as Pakistan’s leading leg-spinner, even replacing the more established Shadab Khan in the T20I side. Yet, his international career failed to hit the heights many had anticipated, with inconsistency on the field and a series of personal and professional challenges off it.

Usman struggled to find a consistent place in the national side. His final appearance for Pakistan came during the 2023 Asian Games, and in the months leading up to his retirement, he voiced his frustration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), accusing them of mishandling his injury and claiming to possess evidence supporting his allegations.
