The Punjab government has introduced a new speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcycles. This aims to reduce the alarming number of road accidents attributed to speeding and to enhance public safety.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari made the announcement, expressing deep concern over the increasing fatalities on the province’s roads. “It is heartbreaking to see lives lost due to speeding,” she stated, emphasizing that this regulation is a critical step toward ensuring safer roads.
To enforce the new speed limit, the government has promised strict monitoring and penalties for non-compliance. “Motorcycles will not be allowed to exceed 60 km/h,” Bukhari confirmed, adding that the authorities are determined to implement the rules effectively to protect lives.
Recently, The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has revised speed limits across the capital to enhance road safety. On major highways like Kashmir Highway, Islamabad Highway, and Murree Road, LTVs can travel at 80 km/h and HTVs at 65 km/h. Other roads, including Constitution Avenue and Jinnah Avenue, have limits of 70 km/h for LTVs and 65 km/h for HTVs.
Lehtrar Road is restricted to 40 km/h for all vehicles, while Kahuta Road and I.J.P. Road allow speeds of 60 km/h. Service roads are capped at 60 km/h (40 km/h for single lanes), and sensitive areas like schools and hospitals have a limit of 30 km/h. These adjustments aim to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer roads.
