Hampshire and England cricketer James Vince has relocated to Dubai, citing personal reasons following a series of attacks on his family home during the summer.
In July, James Vince, 33, released security footage showing multiple incidents where intruders attacked his family home, damaging windows and vehicles during the early hours of several mornings. The unsettling events prompted a reassessment of priorities for the seasoned batter.
Hampshire, in a statement released on Wednesday, confirmed the family’s decision to relocate:
“In 2024, Vince endured a challenging year on a personal level, following several attacks on his family home. As a result, the family has taken the decision to move to Dubai.”
Despite the move, James Vince remains steadfast in his commitment to Hampshire, particularly in the T20 Blast, where he will continue to play for the Hawks in the upcoming season after giving up his ECB contract to prioritize franchise cricket like the PSL.
The batter, who has been a cornerstone of Hampshire cricket for 16 years, expressed his gratitude to the club for their unwavering support during a difficult time.
“I love Hampshire—it’s been my club and home for 16 years,” Vince stated. “I want to be able to maintain my best to keep delivering for Hampshire in T20 cricket and hopefully even further our success in the competition.”
The relocation, Vince explained, was made with his family’s well-being in mind while considering the stage of his career.
“I also need to understand what is best for my family and combine that with the stage of my career I am at,” he said. “I am so grateful to everyone at the Utilita Bowl for supporting me last year through a really tough time and for allowing me to make this next step.” Vice is familiar with the landscape of Dubai having become a regular in the ILT20 where he plays for Gulf Giants.
