A bombshell report on social media has highlighted the problems surrounding Pakistan’s domestic cricket once again with reports claiming that the players are grappling with financial turmoil as their central contracts and salaries remain unpaid for eight months under the administration of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Domestic cricketers across the country are reportedly struggling to make ends meet, with many unable to cover basic expenses such as school fees, rent, and household bills due to the ongoing embargo.
These players, who form the backbone of Pakistan’s cricket ecosystem, find themselves in a precarious position as the prolonged delay in payments leaves them in financial limbo, something that PCB promised to get a grip on when department cricket returned after a hiatus under the current regime.
PCB’s alleged negligence to pay the players their dues has sparked widespread criticism. Under normal circumstances, contracts ensure a steady income for players competing in the country’s premier domestic tournaments, including the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the President’s Cup.
However, this prolonged inaction has left players without a safety net. Mohsin Naqvi’s administration has faced growing scrutiny for its handling of cricket affairs during its tenure. Despite pledges to stabilize the sport at all levels, the ongoing salary crisis paints a grim picture of neglect.
Under the alleged timeline, PCB has organized numerous tournaments including Regional Inter District Sr, Champions One-day Cup, and Champions T20 Cup for which they paid a hefty sum to the team mentors but their negligence in paying the actual talent has become a cause for concern. PCB has also announced a packed 2025 domestic schedule which may sour relations further.
