A young man was injured while trying to record a video with a pet lion in a cage at a breeding farm in Lahore. The incident took place at a farm run by Mian Umar Dolah in the Sabzazar area.
Azeem attempted to get close to the lion for a video but was suddenly attacked. He sustained injuries to his face, arm, and shoulder. After receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital, he was given first aid for his wounds.
In response to the attack, the Director General of Punjab Wildlife directed the cancellation of the farm’s license and ordered legal action against the owner. A representative from the Punjab Wildlife Department confirmed the move.
It should be noted that recently, the Punjab Cabinet approved new regulations regarding the ownership of lions and other wild animals. These rules will prohibit keeping such animals in urban areas and ban filming videos, like those on TikTok, involving them.
Additionally, big cats have been included in Schedule 2 of the Wildlife Act 1974, with a licensing fee of Rs. 50,000 for lion ownership. While the cabinet has approved these changes, the official notification is still awaited.
