The 10th-grade Pakistan Studies curriculum has been updated to include the contributions of prominent women to national development from the establishment of Pakistan in 1947 to the present. Among these, the services of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, have been highlighted.
The 2025 edition of the Pakistan Studies textbook for matriculation students recognizes the contributions of Fatima Jinnah alongside 11 other notable women. This textbook will be taught in public and private schools under the uniform education curriculum.
The contributions of figures such as Benazir Bhutto, Kulsoom Nawaz, Fehmida Mirza, Nusrat Bhutto, and Maryam Nawaz are also acknowledged. Additionally, the curriculum includes Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Justice Ayesha Neelum, Bilquis Edhi, Arfa Karim, Samina Baig, Shamshad Akhtar, and Nigar Johar Khan. These contributions are featured in Chapter 8 on page 163 of the new Pakistan Studies textbook, which will be part of the 2025 curriculum.
For the first time, Nusrat Bhutto is included alongside Benazir Bhutto in the 10th-grade syllabus. The textbook notes that Maryam Nawaz Sharif became Punjab’s first female Chief Minister in 2024. It also highlights that her administration launched several projects and programs across sectors such as health, education, energy, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Justice Ayesha Neelum’s achievements are also recognized, as she became the first female Chief Justice of Lahore High Court in 2024. The book further acknowledges Dr. Fehmida Mirza’s role as Speaker of the National Assembly from 2008 to 2013.
This updated chapter, including these prominent women’s contributions, will also be featured in textbooks allocated for private schools.
