FIFA and AFC Confirm Agenda for PFF Congress Meeting

FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have officially confirmed that the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Congress meeting on January 24 will exclusively address proposed amendments to the PFF Constitution of 2014.

In a statement issued by the PFF Normalisation Committee, the two governing bodies emphasized that deliberations and voting on the amendments are the sole focus of the agenda.

Key Points of Discussion: Article 38 Amendments

The spotlight of the Congress meeting will be on proposed changes to Article 38 of the PFF Constitution, specifically concerning the composition of the Congress and Provincial Executive Committees (EXCOs). According to the press release, a significant majority of Congress members have expressed strong support for restricting amendments to this particular article, reflecting a consensus on safeguarding its scope.

Concerns About Political Influence

Despite general agreement on the agenda, representatives from various departments have also voiced concerns regarding the potential for increased political influence. These apprehensions stem from discussions about expanding the eligibility criteria for presidential elections, which some fear could compromise the neutrality of the federation’s leadership.

Since 2019, the PFF has been under the supervision of FIFA and AFC’s Normalisation Committee, tasked with restoring order and facilitating elections. While elections at the club and provincial levels were completed in 2024, the process of holding fresh elections for the federation’s central leadership has yet to conclude.
