Motorcyclists have raised concerns over the dedicated bike lane on Ferozepur Road, citing potential safety hazards. In a survey by The News, many riders highlighted that numerous openings along the lane could lead to serious accidents.
The project, initiated under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to ensure safer travel for bikers. However, the design has sparked criticism.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is installing one-foot-high dividers on the far-left lane of Ferozepur Road, stretching from the Muslim Town Bridge to the Lahore Bridge near Arfa Kareem Tower.
This has reduced the road from four lanes to three and narrowed it to two lanes near the Kalma Chowk flyover, potentially disrupting traffic flow.
Dangerous gaps in the lane, particularly at the start and end of the Kalma Chowk flyover, allow bikers to switch lanes or other vehicles to enter the dedicated lane. This poses a risk, especially for bikers exiting the flyover near the Model Town underpass.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq defended the project, stating that only necessary openings were allowed and that the lane’s orange markings at crossings would alert bikers to slow down. He assured that the lane would reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
Farooq and Chief Engineer Israr Saeed inspected the route and confirmed that 75% of the work is complete, with the lane set to open next week.
They are duffers just wait for traffic chaos worst than before on this section.

I’m just a common men and today morning i was driving along Ferozepur road and madam in my opinion, you should not only allow just Motorbikes, but also alow all kinds of Auto-Rickshaws to drive on this same lane for better safety measures.
And Madam, I have another request from you that wherever there are metro tracks in Lahore, ambulances should be allowed to operate in all the hospitals around them, such as the General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and any other hospitals that are located along the tracks.
And this way, our 1122 ambulances will be able to reach hospitals with ease/in-time, to save a life of all patient’s and humanity.

LDA DG is not a biker and if anyone meet face and accident due to their ridiculous project so called bikers safety lane DG LDA will be responsible.
Ferozpure road has only 3 lanes at some point and one lane dedicated to the bikers remaining lanes isn’t enough handle other traffic load also lane changing near flyovers and underpasses may cause serious traffic jam and accidents

THEY obviously cant stop media buying. They have made fortune through fines in the recent years when they should have spend this time in organising traffic. It has successfully happened before in Pervaiz Ellahi’s tenure. You just have to educate and then apply fines on the bikers so they can drive on the far side of the road. This should be implement every where in the country.

Dear madam CM, the construction of divider for bikes is highly risky for both four wheelers and bike riders. This division only be made by CatEyes, saving space and risks. Fines on traffic violations may be raised to make fear and deterrence. The traffic police personnel’s may be defended against disrespectful attitude of wayward mindsets. The plan in experiment is not viable
All developed countries have designated lanes for cyclists, bikers and ambulances… Actually it’s the problem with bikers who are habitual to zig zaging between traffic…to reach the top of traffic lane… Even my son does this stunt…They want to be free on the road and go where ever they want…

Since start of this project this is what’s going on in my mind that what would happen when someone try to turn left? Lets see how it turns out but it seems another chaos of traffic. Like the U turns. They try to make signal free corridors by removing signals and making u turn which eventually turn out to be disasters for the traffic and traffic start jamming even more then signlas would to.
Rickshaws also included in this lane, because usually they along with motorcycles travel in fast lane.
