Major General (R) Zafarullah Khan Appointed DG Cannabis Regulatory Authority

The federal government has appointed Major General (Retd.) Zafarullah Khan as the Director General of the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority, according to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division on Thursday.

This appointment comes as part of a series of high-level transfers and postings the federal government has been implementing in recent days.

The Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority was officially formed in March 2024 after then-President Arif Alvi enacted an ordinance to establish the body.

Later, in September 2024, the National Assembly passed the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, outlining regulations for cannabis cultivation and the sale of its extracts for medicinal purposes.

Meanwhile, Raja Tanveer Azmi, a Grade 20 Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, has been relieved of his duties and directed to report to the Establishment Division.

In a separate move, the government has reassigned Rana Manzoor Ahmed Khan, a Grade 20 officer from the Military Lands and Cantonments Group, back to the Military Cantonment Department. He previously served as Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Division.
