Latest Update on Haris Rauf’s Injury

The Pakistan Cricket Board has provided the latest update on the injury suffered by the team’s pace spearhead, Haris Rauf, during the first tri-series One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand in Lahore. Haris has been diagnosed with a muscular sprain in his lower chest wall; however, medical scans—including MRI and X‑rays—have allayed fears of a more serious injury.

Haris Rauf will be available for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

While Haris Rauf’s injury does not pose a long-term concern, PCB has opted for a cautious approach. As part of his rehabilitation, the express pacer will not be considered for selection in Pakistan’s upcoming match against South Africa on 12 February 2025. He may also sit out the final if Pakistan manages to qualify for the fixture. PCB’s decision is aimed at allowing him to regain full fitness ahead of the Champions Trophy, which begins in Karachi on 19 February 2025.

With Rauf sidelined, Pakistan’s bowling attack will need some adjustments for the two possible fixtures before the marquee tournament. His absence could provide an opportunity for Faheem Ashraf to step up as the team’s third pace bowling option as Pakistan fine-tunes its squad for the tournament.

Rauf’s availability for the Champions Trophy will be a significant boost for Pakistan, given his ability to generate raw pace and trouble opposition batters. His recovery will be closely monitored, with team management keen on having him at full strength for the crucial tournament opener.
