The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has approved a bill imposing a ban on dual citizenship for civil servants by a majority vote.
Senator Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan presided over the meeting, where detailed discussions were held on the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill 2024, introduced by Senator Afnan Ullah.
During the session, a proposal was made to defer the bill until further data could be collected. However, Senator Aimal Wali Khan opposed the delay, emphasizing that it was a policy matter that should not be postponed.
Senator Saadia Abbasi also opposed the bill, but the committee chairman decided to put it to a vote, leading to its approval by the majority.
