Punjab Approves Mall Road Underpass in Rawalpindi

The Punjab government has initiated a significant infrastructure project to alleviate traffic congestion on Mall Road, one of Rawalpindi’s busiest thoroughfares. The plan involves an underpass to make Mall Road signal-free, improving traffic.

The underpass will extend from TM Chowk (Shalimar Chowk) to MH Chowk, featuring both double-barrel and single-barrel sections. This design aims to accommodate a high volume of vehicles while also including a pedestrian path for safe foot traffic. The project is set to begin on February 17, with a completion target of two months.

The City Traffic Police (CTP) has developed a comprehensive diversion plan to manage traffic during construction. Over 150 traffic wardens will be deployed, and traffic from MH Chowk to TM Chowk will be rerouted to Haider Road, which runs parallel to Mall Road, allowing vehicles to access Murree Road and Kachehri Chowk easily.

Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima requested public cooperation during this period. Citizens are encouraged to follow the traffic advisories and use alternative routes to minimize inconvenience. CTP has also set up a helpline and social media channels for public assistance.
