Pakistan Post Announces 54th Letter-Writing Competition

Pakistan Post, in collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), has announced the launch of the 54th International Letter-Writing Competition for 2025, inviting young students to showcase their writing skills while addressing an important global issue.

Theme: “Imagine You Are the Ocean”

This year’s competition revolves around the theme: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you.”

Participants aged 9 to 15 years are encouraged to adopt the perspective of the ocean and highlight the urgency of marine conservation through their words.

Submission Process and Deadlines

The competition consists of two stages:

Stage One: National Level

  • Students must submit their handwritten letters in English or Urdu.
  • The letter must not exceed 800 words.
  • Submissions must be sent via registered mail or UMS to the relevant Post Masters General.
  • Deadline: March 25, 2025.
  • Entries sent through private couriers (OCS) or delivered by hand will not be accepted.

Stage Two: National Awards & International Selection

  • The top three letters from the national competition will receive cash prizes:
    • First place: Rs. 30,000
    • Second place: Rs. 20,000
    • Third place: Rs. 10,000
  • Winners will also receive commemorative stamps and merit certificates.
  • An award ceremony will be held on World Post Day, October 9, 2025.
  • The best English-language letter will be submitted to the UPU in Bern, Switzerland, for the international competition.

Global Recognition and Prizes

At the international level, a jury appointed by the UPU will evaluate the top entries. The best letters will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with special commemorative stamps.

This gives young Pakistani writers the opportunity to gain global recognition for their creativity and awareness of environmental issues.

Who Can Participate?

To be eligible, students must meet the following terms and conditions:

  • Age Limit: 9 to 15 years.
  • Letter Format: The letter must be structured properly, including:
    • A greeting (e.g., “Dear,” “Respected”).
    • The recipient’s address.
    • A formal closing with the writer’s signature.
  • Handwriting Requirement: Letters must be neatly handwritten. Typed letters will not be accepted.
  • School Information: Submissions must include the name of the school head, along with their signature, stamp, complete address, and phone number.
  • Compliance: Only letters that meet all the specified conditions will be considered.
