Pakistan Launches New App to Issue Visa-on-Arrival in 24 Hours

Pakistan has introduced the “Pak ID” mobile application to streamline the visa-on-arrival process for citizens of 120 eligible countries, enhancing convenience for international travelers.

Developed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the app enables users to apply for business and tourist visas, track application status in real-time, and complete the process within 24 hours. Features such as facial recognition, document scanning, and photo uploads allow applicants to bypass in-person visits, significantly reducing processing times.

This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s goal of digitizing its visa system, which currently accommodates citizens from 192 countries. Through the app, users receive notifications and can monitor visa progress directly from their mobile devices. Available for free on Android and iOS platforms, “Pak ID” aims to boost tourism and facilitate business travel by cutting bureaucratic hurdles.

The application also caters to overseas Pakistanis applying for identity cards, reinforcing NADRA’s push toward modernizing public services. At present, the app supports Visa Before Arrival (VPA) applications, with other visa types accessible via the POVS website.

In a related development, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a 24/7 passport office at NADRA’s Mega Centre in Karachi’s North Nazimabad. During his visit, he engaged with applicants and staff, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving public services.

Additionally, Pakistan has granted visas to all seven Indian journalists who applied to cover the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, ensuring smooth media coverage for the tournament hosted in the country.
