As the 2025 Champions Trophy opener between New Zealand and Pakistan draws near, all eyes remain on prolific batter Rachin Ravindra’s availability for the fixture. The left-hander has not played a game since taking a blow to the forehead while fielding against Pakistan in the tri-series.
While a serious injury or concussion was immediately ruled out, New Zealand has remained cautious with his reintroduction to the team. Rachin was reportedly the first to hit the nets in Karachi, signaling his determination to return despite lingering concerns over his injury. Despite his visible eagerness in the nets, New Zealand’s management is in no rush to declare him match-ready.
“Rachin will train tonight, and we’ll get a better indication of how he’s going,” Tom Latham stated. “His recovery is progressing well, but with head injuries, we need to be extra cautious. We’ll go through all necessary protocols before making a decision.”
While New Zealand adapted masterfully to Rachin Ravindra’s absence in the tri-series, the Champions Trophy presents a different challenge altogether. With Lockie Ferguson and Ben Sears already ruled out, the Kiwis cannot afford another blow to their lineup in the form of Rachin.
As the opening match against Pakistan looms, Rachin Ravindra’s inclusion in the playing XI remains uncertain. However, one thing is clear—whether he plays or not, New Zealand has proven they can adjust and thrive under any circumstances.
