The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced free outpatient department (OPD) services under the Sehat Card Plus program, expanding healthcare access for deserving families.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur officially launched the initiative during a ceremony at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by provincial ministers, lawmakers, and health officials.
The program’s pilot phase will begin in Mardan, covering 50,000 low-income households. In the next phase, it will extend to Chitral, Malakand, and Kohat, eventually benefiting around 120,000 families based on Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) data.
Under this initiative, eligible patients will receive free consultations, medications, and diagnostic tests. Services will be available at hospitals on the Sehat Card panel, as well as Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) at the Union Council level.
This project is being implemented with support from the German organization KfW and is expected to expand further.
Speaking at the launch, Gandapur highlighted that K-P is the first province to offer free OPD services under the Sehat Card. He stressed the government’s commitment to improving public healthcare, ensuring admitted and OPD patients receive treatment without financial burden.
