The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has requested the Peshawar High Court to relax the English language requirement for the Additional Sessions Judge screening test.
The request came after several lawyers failed the English portion of the exam. Out of 598 candidates, 139 did not pass the section.
In a letter to the high court, the Bar Council argued that strict English criteria prevent capable candidates from qualifying. It urged authorities to ease the standard so that more skilled individuals could be considered for the position.
The demand has sparked debate over whether language proficiency should be a key factor in judicial appointments or if other competencies should be given more weight.
