Pakistani Players Snubbed as The Hundred 2025 Retentions Announced

The eight teams participating in The Hundred 2025 have announced their retentions ahead of this year’s player draft, and for the first time, no Pakistani player has been retained.

This marks a significant shift, as four Pakistan players—Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf, and Usama Mir—featured in the previous edition of the tournament but failed to secure spots in their respective teams’ core groups this year.

According to the tournament’s guidelines, each team was allowed to retain up to 10 players, including one centrally-contracted England player and a maximum of three overseas players.

For the first time in the league’s history, teams were also permitted to sign one overseas player through direct signing, with a cut-off date of February 24, 2025. This new policy has brought in some of the biggest names in international cricket, including Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, David Miller, Faf du Plessis, Trent Boult, and Rashid Khan, among others.

No Pakistani Representation

The absence of Pakistani players in the retentions and direct signings has raised eyebrows, especially given the performances of players like Haris Rauf and Imad Wasim in the previous season.

While no official reason has been provided, it is speculated that scheduling conflicts, availability issues, and the influx of other high-profile international players may have played a role in this decision.
