Pakistan Gears Up for South Asian Games 2026

With less than a year to go until the 14th edition of the South Asian Games (SAG), Pakistan’s top sports officials conducted a detailed inspection of key venues at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The high-profile visit, led by the Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Yasir Pirzada and Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Arif Saeed, aimed to assess the country’s readiness to host the prestigious event.

Pakistan will welcome athletes from across South Asia from January 23 to January 31, 2026, marking its return as a host nation after 22 years. The country previously hosted the Games in 1989 and 2004, and officials are keen to ensure world-class facilities this time around.

During the inspection, Pirzada emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to delivering a top-tier sporting spectacle. “Hosting these Games is both an honor and a responsibility. We are determined to provide the best facilities for athletes from across the region,” he stated.

POA President Arif Saeed highlighted the broader impact of the event, underscoring its role in strengthening regional sporting ties. “The Games foster camaraderie among nations, and Pakistan is ready to welcome the region’s best talent,” he remarked.

The South Asian Games 2026 will feature a wide range of sports, bringing together athletes from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. With preparations in full swing, the focus remains on upgrading infrastructure and ensuring seamless logistical arrangements to deliver a successful edition of South Asia’s biggest multi-sport event.
