Xiaomi 15 Ultra Launches, Ready to Reclaim the World’s Best Camera Phone Title

Xiaomi has officially launched the 15 Ultra, offering a refined design, powerful hardware, and feature-rich software. While this newest flagship maintains the key strengths of the previous Ultra, it also provides a bigger battery, an updated chipset, and notable improvements to an already excellent camera system.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra arrives in Black, White, and a special Silver Chrome Edition.

The Black model features a textured back, whereas the White has an etched surface. The Silver Chrome option incorporates aerospace-grade glass fiber and PU leather, giving the device the look and feel of a premium camera. This special edition weighs 229g compared to the other two models’ 226g and measures 9.48mm thick compared to 9.35mm.

Its CNC-crafted aluminum frame is robust, and Xiaomi’s Shield Glass 2.0, which reportedly improves drop resistance by 16 times, protects the display. That display is a 6.73-inch 3200x1440px AMOLED panel with adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz and peak brightness of up to 3,200 nits.

Internals and Hardware

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset provides up to 45% better performance and up to 52% lower power consumption. Buyers can select between 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and choose from 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. To handle increased thermal loads, the new chipset pairs with an optimized cooling stack, enhancing the phone’s performance during high-demand tasks.

The battery boasts a 10% silicon carbide content, growing from the previous generation’s capacity by 17% to 6,000mAh (with the global version expected to carry 5,410mAh). It retains the 90W wired and 80W wireless charging of its predecessor.

AI Upgrades And Software

Xiaomi has introduced HyperAI, which brings system-wide features like copywriting, text polishing, and transcript generation for meetings. The AI suite integrates seamlessly with the phone’s HyperCore technology, promising optimized performance, networking, and privacy. On-device processing ensures security and rapid responses without depending on external servers.

Xiaomi’s Android 15-based HyperOS 2 sits on the 15 Ultra, featuring a refreshed lock screen, redesigned home screen, and updated system apps. Xiaomi guarantees four generations of Android system updates and six years of security patches.

Camera

The 15 Ultra continues Xiaomi’s Leica-tuned quad-camera approach, including wide, short telephoto, long telephoto, and ultrawide configurations. The main sensor is a 1-inch type 50MP Sony LYT-900 with a fixed f/1.63 aperture, while the mid-zoom camera uses the 50-inch 1/2.51-inch IMX858 with a 70mm f/1.8 lens. The ultrawide lens, on paper, downgrades from last year’s 12mm f/1.8 to 14mm f/2.2, still featuring the 1/2.51-inch Samsung JN5 sensor.

The most significant upgrade arrives in the new 100mm f/2.6 long telephoto camera, which adopts a 200MP Samsung HP9 1/1.4-inch sensor.

According to Xiaomi, this sensor captures 136% more light than the 120mm unit found in the previous generation. All four rear cameras record 8K video at 30fps, while every camera—selfie included—can shoot 4K at up to 60fps. The main and 100mm telephoto modules also handle 4K at 120fps.

Battery and Pricing

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s 6,000mAh battery (5,410mAh in global markets) supports the same 90W wired and 80W wireless charging as before. The phone goes on sale in China today, with the 12GB/256GB variant priced at CNY 6,499 (€854, £700, INR 78,000, $895).

The 16GB/512GB version costs CNY 6,999 (€920, £760, INR 84,000, $960), while the top-spec 16GB/1TB model comes in at CNY 7,799 (€1,025, £850, INR 93,600, $1,070). It is expected to reach global markets on Sunday.

The company also offers a Professional imaging kit accessory for CNY 999 (€130, £110, INR 12,000, $140).
