The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened in Peshawar on Friday, February 28, to sight the Ramadan moon, but no credible testimonies, primarily due to unfavorable weather across the country, were received.
After thorough deliberations, the committee announced that the moon had not been sighted, and the first fast will be observed on March 2.
The meeting, chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, was attended by members from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission.
Zonal members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta also participated.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds great religious significance for Muslims worldwide.
It is a month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
During fasting hours, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, and negative habits such as gossiping and cursing.
They are encouraged to focus on acts of worship, including offering prayers, reciting the Quran, and engaging in charitable deeds.
