Saqlain Mushtaq Dares India to Play Bilateral Series With Pakistan

Legendary Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has thrown down a challenge to India, suggesting that the two cricketing giants can settle the growing debate over the cricketing gulf between them on the field.

His comments come on the heels of Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, where they failed to win a single match, raising questions about their standing in world cricket.

Despite the poor results, Saqlain Mushtaq remains confident that Pakistan is not far behind the top sides. Pakistan’s hopes in the Champions Trophy were dashed after a demoralizing loss to India in their group match in Dubai. The Men in Blue triumphed by six wickets, further cementing their dominance over Pakistan in ICC events.

The one-sided nature of the contest left many wondering whether the historic Indo-Pak rivalry still holds the same competitive edge it once did. However, the legendary off-spinner was quick to defend his former team, daring India to settle the debate with a comprehensive series across all formats.

“If we put political issues aside, their players are outstanding, and they’ve been playing good cricket. But if you’re truly a good team, play 10 Tests, 10 ODIs, and 10 T20Is against Pakistan. Then everything will become clear,” Saqlain Mushtaq said during an appearance on a local TV channel. “If we get our preparation right and make the right decisions, we will be in a position to give solid answers to India and the world.”

Saqlain Mushtaq’s call comes amid a rough patch for Pakistan in international cricket. Their disappointing performance in the Champions Trophy followed similar shortcomings in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup, with the team failing to show any significant improvements across any facet of the game.

While it is unlikely that the two sides will face off in the series Saqlain Mushtaq has suggested, they will meet in the 2025 Asia Cup later this year, providing another opportunity for the rivals to rekindle their fierce competition.
