This Realme Phone Can Swap To a DSLR Camera Lens

Realme made a notable announcement at MWC 2025, not just with the launch of its 14 Pro series in Europe but with a new smartphone concept featuring interchangeable DSLR-style lenses. This prototype device, designed to replicate professional-grade photography, was one of the stand-out moments of the event.

The Interchangeable Lens Concept smartphone features a customized 1-inch Sony sensor, a rarity in mobile devices, capable of capturing more light and detail than standard smartphone cameras. What sets this prototype apart is its proprietary lens mount system, allowing users to swap out lenses just like on a traditional DSLR or mirrorless camera.

At MWC, Realme demonstrated two specialized lenses: a 73mm portrait lens, ideal for capturing stunning bokeh and detailed close-ups, and a 234mm telephoto lens, designed for long-range shots with incredible clarity. These lenses work in conjunction with the 1-inch sensor, achieving image quality that surpasses even the most advanced smartphone cameras on the market today.

Realme’s approach with interchangeable lenses brings a new level of control and flexibility to smartphone users, allowing for optical zoom without digital degradation and superior image processing through larger sensors and high-end optics.

While periscope cameras—like the one in the Realme 14 Pro+ have improved zoom capabilities in smartphones, they still rely on small built-in lenses. Realme’s interchangeable lens system removes that limitation, bringing true optical versatility to a mobile device.

Will This Go Mainstream?

Despite its impressive capabilities, Realme’s DSLR-style concept remains just that—a prototype. The company has not announced any plans for mass production, and given the complexity of integrating professional lenses into a smartphone, it may take years before a device like this reaches consumers. However, the enthusiastic response at MWC 2025 shows that there is interest in high-end, professional-grade mobile photography solutions.
