A Pakistani taxi driver in Mannheim, Germany, is being celebrated for his bravery after stopping a deadly car attack that claimed two lives.
According to German media outlet DW, the driver, Afzal Muhammad, prevented further casualties by chasing the attacker’s vehicle and forcing it to stop. Mayor Christian Specht praised his courageous actions, saying, “He showed great bravery. He pursued the attacker’s car and stopped it to prevent further harm.”
Afzal Muhammad, who has lived in Germany for 15 years, is now widely recognized for his heroic intervention.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 40-year-old German citizen who attempted to escape after the attack. During his getaway, he tried to take his own life by shooting himself in the mouth but survived. He was treated at a hospital before being handed over to law enforcement.
Investigators suspect the attacker has psychological issues and are conducting further evaluations. Police have confiscated several items from his home and vehicle, including firearms, documents, and digital storage devices, which are now undergoing forensic examination.
