  • Cooking oil – 2 tbsp
  • Tomatoes (pureed) – 2 medium
  • Ginger garlic paste – ½ tbsp

  • Yellow lentil (Moong daal) – ½ cup (soaked for 1 hour)
  • Split Bengal gram (Chana daal) – 1 ½ cups (soaked for 2 hours)
  • Water – 4 cups

  • Garlic (sliced) – 4-5 cloves
  • Red button chilies – 5-6
  • Dried red chilies – 4-5
  • Crushed red chili – 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon stick – 1 large

Step-by-Step Instructions for Fire Tarka Daal

Follow these simple steps to prepare a delicious and aromatic Fire Tarka Daal. From cooking the lentils to adding the sizzling tarka, this guide ensures you get the perfect texture and flavor, making it an ideal dish for Iftar.

Prepare the Daal:

  1. Heat 2 tbsp cooking oil in a clay pot.
  2. Add pureed tomatoes and ginger garlic paste, mix well, and cook on medium flame for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Stir in turmeric powder and red chili powder; cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the soaked yellow lentil and split Bengal gram; mix well.
  5. Pour 4 cups of water, bring to a boil, then cover and cook on low flame for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed.
  6. Once lentils are soft, add Himalayan pink salt, mix well, and adjust consistency as desired.

  1. Heat 4-5 tbsp cooking oil in a frying pan.
  2. Add sliced garlic and fry for a minute until golden.
  3. Toss in button red chilies, dried red chilies, and crushed red chili; mix well.

  5. Burn a cinnamon stick over an open flame, place it in the daal, cover, and let it infuse the smoky aroma for 2-3 minutes.
