Apple is once again rumored to be working on an iPhone 17 Ultra, possibly launching later this year. If that sounds familiar, it’s because similar rumors surfaced before the launches of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series. Back then, people speculated that the “Ultra” would either take the place of the Pro Max or be a new top-tier model.
Now, the same idea is making headlines once more.
According to a recent post on the Naver blog, Apple might replace the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a new iPhone 17 Ultra. The claim is based on an analysis of the supply chain, hinting that Apple is preparing new hardware changes that will make this model stand out.
One such change could be a smaller Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. However, the number of display parts ordered isn’t enough to support both a Pro and an Ultra model, suggesting the Ultra might fully replace the Pro Max.
The report also says the iPhone 17 Ultra will come with special features not seen in other iPhones. It may be the only model with a vapor chamber cooling system, which helps keep the phone from overheating. It’s also expected to have a bigger battery than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, making the device slightly thicker.
While this may seem like a bold move, Apple already uses the “Ultra” label on other products—like the Apple Watch Ultra and M3 Ultra chip. Introducing an iPhone Ultra with premium features would give Apple a reason to raise prices, which could lead to higher profit margins.
Of course, it’s still early, and Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet. These are just reports based on supply chain insights. Even so, it’s something worth keeping an eye on as more details emerge.
