The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appears set to make an example out of Corbin Bosch’s recent move, as the South African cricketer opted for the Indian Premier League (IPL) over his PSL commitments. Displeased with his decision, the PCB has served him a legal notice, alleging breach of contract.
Corbin Bosch, selected by Peshawar Zalmi in the diamond category during the PSL draft in January, signed with the Mumbai Indians on March 8 to replace the injured Lizaad Williams—leading to his withdrawal from the upcoming PSL.
A PCB statement issued through Bosch’s agent stated that the player must now justify his decision to withdraw from his contractual obligations, while also outlining the consequences of his actions. The notice did not specify a deadline for his response, and the PCB has declined to comment further on the matter.
This move comes amid growing concerns from PSL franchises about the potential for players to switch to the IPL if the opportunity arises. With the PSL now scheduled to run concurrently with the IPL—the latter set from March 22 to May 25 and the PSL from April 11 to May 18—the overlapping windows have only intensified these worries.
The PCB’s decision to shift the PSL window to April–May was aimed at attracting higher-caliber overseas talent, a strategy designed to mitigate previous scheduling conflicts with competitions like the SA20, ILT20, and the BPL. Last year, there were even discussions about holding the PSL draft after the IPL auction to better gauge player availability.
As it stands, the IPL auction took place in November 2024, followed by the PSL draft in January 2025, drawing high-profile names such as David Warner, Daryl Mitchell, Jason Holder, Rassie van der Dussen, and Kane Williamson.
Bosch’s decision to forgo the PSL in favor of the IPL could set a dangerous precedent for other international stars, and the PCB is determined to curb this trend. As this saga unfolds, it highlights the complexities of managing the increasingly crowded landscape of franchise cricket.
