The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has banned the use of mobile phones in college classrooms across the province.
The restriction applies to students and teachers to maintain discipline and improve the learning environment.
According to an official notification, excessive phone usage during lectures disrupts academic activities. Officials noted that many students frequently use social media apps during class, affecting their concentration, while teachers’ phone use has also contributed to distractions.
District college directors have been instructed to ensure strict compliance, with warnings of action against those who violate the rules.
The decision has received mixed reactions. Supporters believe it will help students focus on their studies, while critics argue that it limits access to digital learning tools.
