Punjab to Privatize More Low-Enrollment Public Schools After Eid

The third phase of the Punjab government’s school privatization initiative is set to begin after Eid ul Fitr, targeting public schools with 100 or fewer students.

These institutions will be handed over to private owners as part of efforts to streamline the education sector.

The Ministry of Education has instructed District Education Officers and Heads of District Education Authorities in all 43 districts to compile lists of eligible schools.

Many of these schools are in rural villages, while some are located in urban areas, particularly low-enrolment primary schools.

Officials say the move aims to reduce the financial burden on the government by shifting underutilized schools to private management. However, the decision is expected to spark debate over its impact on students and access to education in affected areas.
