The federal government has officially announced public holidays for Eidul Fitr 2025, confirming a break from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2.
According to a notification from the Cabinet Division, the holiday period will allow citizens across the country to celebrate the festival following the conclusion of Ramadan.
Eidul Fitr is expected to be observed on March 31, as the Shawwal crescent is likely to be visible on the evening of Sunday, March 30. The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has stated that the moon will be over 26 hours old by sunset that day, making it easily visible under clear weather conditions.
Experts explain that the moon must be at least 18 hours old for a confirmed sighting, and the time gap between sunset and moonset will meet the required threshold. This increases the likelihood of Eid falling on March 31.
The final announcement regarding the moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing reports from across the country. If the crescent is confirmed on March 30, Pakistanis will begin their Eid celebrations the following day.
