KP Police Get AI-Powered Thermal Drones

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have received 76 advanced drones equipped with modern surveillance and thermal technology to strengthen aerial monitoring, counterterrorism operations and emergency response across the province.

According to a spokesperson for the Central Police Office Peshawar, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed handed over DJI Mavic 4T surveillance drones to representatives of 27 districts and seven police units during a ceremony at the Central Police Office in Peshawar.

Additional DJI Matrice 400 RTK drones equipped with advanced thermal technology were also provided to the Counter Terrorism Department in highly sensitive districts for counterterrorism operations, aerial surveillance and special operations.

Speaking at the event, IGP Hameed said modernizing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is a key priority. He said the new thermal drone technology will improve operations against terrorists, intelligence-based operations, search-and-strike missions, surveillance of sensitive locations, monitoring of large gatherings, and rescue and relief activities during natural disasters and emergencies.

He said the drones will also improve the police force’s ability to track the movement of miscreants at night. The drones have strong speed, long flight range and the ability to carry additional payload.

IGP Hameed said technology-based policing is the need of the hour and that all available resources are being used to modernize KP Police. He added that modern surveillance systems will improve operational capacity, quick response and the safety of police officers and personnel.

He said special training is also being provided to relevant officers and personnel to ensure effective use of the new equipment.

The drones were distributed among representatives of Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Haripur, Swat, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Bajaur, Buner, Lower Chitral, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, SSU, Elite Force, Special Branch, FRP, PTC Hangu and EPTC Nowshera.
