The Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has announced a new 14-day deadline to finalize the draft of the Personal Data Protection Bill. This update was communicated in writing to the Senate Standing Committee on IT.
The revised draft of the Personal Data Protection Bill has been shared with stakeholders for their views and comments. Stakeholders have shown keen interest, resulting in substantial feedback that is currently under deliberation. At the request of the stakeholders, important provisions of the draft bill are being discussed to ensure comprehensive input.
According to the Ministry of IT, the draft is expected to be finalized within the next two weeks. Once completed, the final draft will be presented to the inter-ministerial committee, and the legislative process will commence, ensuring the fulfillment of all codal formalities. Following this, the bill will be submitted for in-principle approval to the Federal Cabinet and other governmental stakeholders.
The Ministry emphasized that all legal requirements and processes will be completed to ensure the successful passage of the Data Protection Bill. This initiative aims to enhance the protection of personal data and align with global standards for data privacy.
