TikToker Arrested in Rawalpindi Under Cybercrime Law

Rawalpindi police have registered the first case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) after gaining new authority to take action against cybercrimes. A TikToker was arrested for allegedly posting derogatory content against top government and military officials on social media.

According to the police, the suspect shared insulting posts targeting the head of a military institution and the Punjab chief minister. The case was filed under Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 20 of the PECA Act 2016.

Authorities claim the TikToker had uploaded multiple videos criticizing the government, national institutions, and intelligence officials. His social media activity allegedly indicates links to a political group, and officials believe he was intentionally spreading anti-government content.

The police report states that the suspect’s actions were aimed at inciting hatred and creating unrest among the public. Officials argue that such content could undermine trust in state institutions.
