Two Children Die After Consuming Contaminated Iftar Food

Two children lost their lives, and six others were hospitalized after consuming contaminated food during Iftar on Monday in Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shaukat Riaz, all family members in Tharli, Chilas, fainted after having their Iftar meal.

They were rushed to the Chilas Regional Headquarters Hospital in an unconscious state. Unfortunately, 10-year-old Imtiaz Ali passed away on Monday night, followed by three-year-old Atia Bibi, who succumbed in the morning.

“The remaining six family members are still under treatment,” Riaz stated.

Meanwhile, Diamer district administration spokesperson Raja Ishfaq Tahir said the cause of contamination remained unclear, but a police investigation was underway.

The six hospitalized individuals were identified as Gulab Shah, Nakir, Gul Sherin, Nahida, six-year-old Nazia, and three-year-old Nasir.
