The Sindh Education Department has decided to launch a mobile application to digitize attendance records for teachers and staff, as well as student enrollment data.
A Step Towards Digital Transformation
According to reports, the initiative aims to introduce digital monitoring of teachers’ and staff attendance, directly link attendance records with the Accountant’s Office, and digitize student enrollment records. Work on the mobile application has already begun.
Sindh’s Education Minister, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, stated, “We are embarking on a digital journey of performance, transparency, and oversight to ensure resources are utilized based on factual data.”
The announcement was made during a meeting in Karachi on Wednesday, which was chaired by the minister and attended by Secretary of School Education Zahid Ali Abbasi, DG Monitoring & Evaluation Mola Bakhsh Sheikh, Deputy Director Ghazi Khan Mehr, and other relevant officials.
Biometric & Location-Based Attendance System
During the meeting, the Monitoring & Evaluation Wing demonstrated the new digital attendance mechanism, which will utilize the Iris Recognition System for the facial identification of teachers.
The iris recognition system will be integrated with the mobile application to ensure accurate attendance tracking. This biometric authentication technology analyzes the unique patterns of a person’s iris, which remains unchanged throughout life, making it a highly secure and precise identification method.
Additionally, the mobile application will be linked with Geofencing Technology, a location-based system that uses GPS or mobile networks to establish virtual boundaries. Teachers and staff will only be able to mark attendance upon reaching the school premises. The application will also function offline, syncing attendance data once an internet connection is restored.
Attendance & Leave Management Features
The system will log both check-in and check-out times, ensuring strict monitoring of teacher attendance. If the internet is unavailable, offline attendance will automatically update on the server once connectivity is restored.
To streamline leave requests, the minister instructed that an option for submitting leave applications should be included in the app, along with features to generate daily, weekly, and monthly attendance reports.
Furthermore, the application will track late arrivals, early departures, and absences, with automated notifications sent to employees in case of repeated tardiness or unnotified absences.
Student Enrollment & Payroll Integration
The education minister also emphasized the importance of digitizing student admissions by linking enrollment records with B-Form (child registration certificate), ensuring accurate student data for future planning and problem-solving.
The mobile application will be designed to be user-friendly and efficient, ensuring ease of use for all employees. Security measures will also be implemented, including cloud-based data storage to safeguard information.
In the next phase, the attendance system will be integrated with the Accountant General Sindh’s Office, enabling automated salary deductions for unapproved absences. These measures aim to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the education sector.
