The Solar Association has strongly criticized the government’s decision to lower net metering rates, calling it a major setback for the renewable energy sector.
During a press conference, Solar Association Chairman Adil Mahmood accused the government of backtracking on its commitments to promote solar energy. He pointed out that officials, including the President and Prime Minister, had previously encouraged solar investments but are now reversing their stance.
“For years, they urged people to invest in solar energy. Now, they’re selling electricity at Rs. 54 per unit while expecting solar producers to settle for Rs. 10 per unit,” he stated.
He warned that this policy shift could lead to huge financial losses for those who have already invested in solar power. Mahmood also criticized the government for making this decision without consulting key stakeholders.
The association has demanded the immediate reversal of the new rates, stressing that sustainable energy policies are essential for long-term progress. Mahmood urged authorities to rethink their decision to ensure the solar industry remains viable and continues contributing to the country’s energy needs.

dont supply electricity to discos and the government will start whining
Is not a choice .
Nothing will happen if this nation is not united. These problems will continue to happen.
Surplus kahan jaye phir? Batteries are not an efficient way of storing surplus electricity. There is too much wastage not to mention the higher initial costs.
Just a question
Will the rejection do anything ? You can reject all you want , so do we . But the govt doesn’t care.
Ofcourse this will create an energy crisis.
Ultimately government is going to suffer . more losses, as those who can invest in solar installation will invest a few more thousands to go for off-grid solution. I know many people who are already working to shift to off-grid and get rid of k electric meters for good.
Government policies are always senseless.
Whole world is shifting to green solution and more and more power houses are shutting down, BUT,
We are going back to stone age!!!
WOW the Solar Association is awake from its sleep
This is very injustice , people are investing huge amount of money and 30% has already invested. I don’t trust these form 47 Government. I request you kindly negotiate with the corrupt Government to take back the dession other wife go to the court of law. My suggestion please make members on social media. Regards. Oooooooooo. Ooooooo
The solar energy is environmental friendly and have no pollution so while fuel energy polluting the environment so it need to buy the solar energy at higher rates as compare to fuel energy. Government has to encouraged the solar energy for clean environment .
So is it still advisable and beneficial to invest in solar energy as I am planning to do so.Kindly advise.
Definately worth it. Its better to install a robust solar system so you use maximum 3-4 hours of electricity at night. I recommend hybrid suytem. This way even if you use AC and everything, if you have a good battery ur bill will be under 2000 rs, because below 200 units for 6 months will make you protected status.
