Punjab Reduces School Timings for Summer

The Punjab government has announced a 30-minute reduction in public school hours during the summer season, effective from April 7 to October 15.

According to a notification from the School Education Department (SED), single-shift schools will now operate from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, classes will end at 11:30 AM. Previously, schools were open until 1:30 PM during the summer months.

For double-shift schools, the morning shift will run from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM on weekdays and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Fridays. The evening shift will operate from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, it will run from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

District Education Authority (DEA) chief executive officers (CEOs) have been instructed to enforce the revised schedule strictly. Any failure to comply may result in legal action.

Additionally, the notification allows a 15-minute adjustment in school opening and closing times for boys’ and girls’ schools, depending on specific circumstances.
