Peshawar Zalmi Bolster Squad With Re-Signing of English Pacer

Peshawar Zalmi have welcomed back England’s Luke Wood ahead of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League, confirming the fast bowler’s return with a creative social media post that featured an animated poster of the seamer in action.

While the franchise kept specifics under wraps, several media outlets have reported that the Englishman’s return comes as a partial replacement for Bangladeshi pacer Nahid Rana. Rana’s availability remains uncertain due to his likely national team commitments, with Bangladesh set to host a home Test series during the early weeks of the PSL.

Luke Wood, a left-arm quick known for his aggression with the new ball, had a steady outing with Peshawar Zalmi last season, picking up 13 wickets in 12 matches. He averaged 30.30 across the campaign, with best figures of 2 for 13.

His signing follows another notable update in the Zalmi camp, with South African all-rounder George Linde brought in to replace Corbin Bosch in the Diamond category. Bosch snubbed the franchise in favor of a spot with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, prompting Zalmi to act swiftly in securing a like-for-like replacement.

As PSL X draws near, Zalmi will be hoping that the addition of familiar faces brings good fortune to the team. The franchise has added serious firepower to the squad in recent weeks, and the team will be chomping at the bit for the competition to get going. Peshawar, who lifted the PSL title back in 2017, will begin their campaign with a high-octane clash against fierce rivals Quetta Gladiators on April 12.

Before that, the two sides are also scheduled to meet in an exhibition match at the Arbab Niaz Stadium. Originally set for April 8, the showcase fixture was postponed by the Pakistan Cricket Board last week, with a revised date yet to be confirmed.
