Pakistan Railways has announced the resumption of the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express at the end of this month.
According to railway officials, the train—once a profitable service on the Main Line-II—was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The development follows the earlier restoration of the Shah Hussain Express between Karachi Cantt and Lahore in February this year. That train stops at Hyderabad, Rohri, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Khanewal, and Faisalabad.
Pakistan Railways is also advancing plans for a new high-speed express train between Lahore and Karachi, similar to the existing Green Line Express that links Islamabad and Karachi via Lahore.
A Ministry of Railways official said the upcoming service aims to offer advanced passenger amenities and a significantly improved travel experience. The official added that Pakistan Railways is adopting new technology to manufacture coaches locally, reducing reliance on imports.
